I have no idea, Reed, but it is a worthy question. One would suspect they are — all of the funds collected from those "share the road" plates is supposed to be going to bicycle safety and education in one form or fashion. I'm not sure how local groups would apply to receive any portion.

It would be a creative twist of intent to argue bicyclist safety and education are being promoted through legislative lobbying, but that is the notable activity of which I am aware coming forth from TBC.

Perhaps it is worth the effort to pursue a FOIA request to the comptroller regarding funds in this account. I would be truly interested in learning how this money is being spent and why legislators feel more is needed through robbing the Safe Routes Program.

Is the TBC receiving any of the legislated funds? Isn't this a blatant money grab?

I have no problems with SB2041. Considering too many drivers are unaware of a cyclist's right as an operator of a vehicle, addressing this lack of understanding on the TDL exam pleases me.

SB161 is outrageous, dishonest, and deceitful. It's akin to a "Protect Life" license plate being used to fund Planned Parenthood education efforts, or the "Keep Texas Wild" plates being used to support the National Rifle Association's gun safety program.

The Legislative initiatives that NTVC supports are laudatory, and should be adopted by any and all cycling advocacy groups that truly advocate for bicyclists' safety and rights.
